West End Cabinets originated in Miami, FL in 1948 when Charles Burpeau started his business out of an old coast guard building with his brother-in-law, Harry Gaver. His son, Robert Burpeau, inherited the craft as well as the passion to create a vital cabinet business. In 1976, Robert moved to Black Mountain with his family, and he and his wife, Jan started the business out of his family’s garage. Word of his quality cabinetry soon spread and by 1984 he built a 2000 square foot building for custom residential cabinetry. As the commercial business grew, they moved into a 5,000 square foot facility along with sons Allen and Brian, and sister Ashley who worked along side their parents building custom commercial cabinetry. Oldest son, Allen has continued growing the commercial side and in 2005, the family decided to get back into the residential cabinetry business with son Brian managing the residential division. They recently acquired a 25,000 square foot building in Black Mountain which boasts a 3,600 square foot showroom to display the three manufacturing lines for their residential business line.
